It is nearly time for Institute! You will receive your individual schedule with your registration packet on Tuesday, but here is an overview of a typical day.


8:30 to 11:30 Morning classes
11:30 to 12:30 Lunch and Parent Talks
12:45 -1:45 Student Recital  – Attendance at these recitals is strongly encouraged
2:00 to 6:00 Afternoon Classes
Evening events include:
Tuesday, 5:30 pm potluck picnic at Pioneer Park
Thursday, 7:00 pm Showcase Recital featuring Zachary and James Spontak
Saturday, 7:00 pm Chamber Music and Elective Recital

Need dinner on Saturday?  Join the Chamber Music and Elective students for a pizza party outside the front doors of the Fine Arts Building on Saturday from 5:30 to 6:30.  This event is open to all FSI participants and their families. The cost is $7 for one slice of pizza, drink, and veggies.  Extra slices are available for $2.  Please sign-up in advance at registration or in the office until Friday, June 1st at noon.

1:00 – 3:00 Pick up schedules in the Great Hall and locate classrooms

  • Students in Viola for Violinists sign out a viola in the Suzuki Office.
  • Please use this time to familiarize yourself with the location of the rooms which we are using this year.  Do the scavenger hunt “Find Gina the Guitarist” to locate all of your classrooms.

2:00 Graduation Rehearsals

Students who are graduating this year go to these rooms for your rehearsal:

  • Violins will meet in room M217
  • Cellos will meet in room M301
  • No graduation rehearsals for Flute or Guitar on Tuesday

3:00 Orientation and Faculty Introduction in the Salisbury Theater

  • FSI Official T-shirt Picture for all students and faculty – outside the Great Hall on the steps of the Rasmussen Library facing the fountain.  Join us after the orientation for this historic moment with everyone together.

3:30 Play In

  • Violins: Twinkle to Perpetual Motion meet in room 301.
  • Violins: Allegretto to Advanced meet in Salisbury Theater.
  • Flutes: All levels meet in room 223.
  • Cello and Viola:  All levels meet in 217.

4:30 Faculty Meeting in 217

5:30 Picnic at Pioneer Park Playground Shelter

A rain or shine picnic will be held today, May 29, at Pioneer Park. All students, families and teachers are invited to the picnic area closest to the main playground. Parent volunteers have been working hard to make this a delicious Potluck Picnic. Hamburgers, drinks and picnic dinnerware will be provided. We ask our Suzuki families to bring picnic foods to share. Let’s treat our clinicians to a bountiful Alaska Picnic! Come and join in a game of mini-golf with other Suzuki families.

Register for Spring Semester by January 8

Registration for the spring semester of group lessons will close on January 8.  After that date, the tuition will increase from $165 to $190.  This semester, everyone must register online before the January 8 deadline, there will not be an option to register at our first group lesson meeting.  If you are new to our program this semester, you can also purchase a t-shirt on our registration page.

After registration closes on January 8th, the teachers will form the classes and email the class lists to everyone before our first meeting on January 18.  Below is the spring semester schedule, please add these dates to your calendar.

Spring Semester Schedule

January 18      First Group Lesson of Spring Semester.

February 22    Twinkle Celebration and Institute T-Shirt night.

March 15          Institute Registration Due.

March 15           Spring Break, no group lessons.

April 12              Last group lesson at University Park.

April 19              Final Concert at Zion Lutheran Church.

May 29 – June 3   Fairbanks Suzuki Institute.
